Alex Rassogianis’ new book Return to Glenlord: Memories of Michigan Summers is a gem for those who call Michigan their home away from home. This memoir, which recounts summers spent in Michigan as a young boy is a delight. The pages turn quickly as the details of these memories are crystal clear. Readers will recall with fondness their own travels that were similar to Rassogianis. The reader will also be transported in time when drive-ins; Clark bars and music on the radio was buzzing with Frank Sinatra. This is a must read.

I was raised on Lake Michigan, a few miles north of Stevensville, where this story takes place. I lived there until my family moved to Tampa, Florida 35 years ago. This book took me back to my old stomping grounds. I felt like I was walking beside the author throughout the book. Very enjoyable.

Just wanted to say thank you for writing this book. My family moved to Stevensville in the late 1960’s when I was nine. I moved away 14 years later, but my parents remained. So many of your memories are similar to my own: the beaches, the drive-in movie theater, the main street of Stevensville, watching the sunset over the lake. So glad you had this published.

I just finished Alex’s book the other night. I really enjoyed it. I felt like I grew up going to Michigan too. Knowing many of the people involved added to my enjoyment but I think anyone could enjoy this story about growing up in a much more innocent and simpler time. Please let Alex know how much pleasure his book gave me. A delight.

I just finished your book a few minutes ago, and wanted to thank you for transporting me back in time with such wonderful memories! I am about the same age as you, and grew up on Marquette Woods Road, right in front of the cemetery. It’s been a while since I’ve thought about the great summer dances at Glenlord Beach. I would simply kill for a Petone’s pizza one more time. I can still remember the wonderful aroma of that kitchen after more than 50 years. I will highly recommend your book to my friends, and thank you for sharing your memories.

I’m almost half way through the book and enjoying it tremendously. Didn’t realize there were photos also. So much fun. I am particularly touched by your descriptions of Uncle George and how he protected and loved you. Very sweet.

Congratulations, Alex for your wonderful memoir of carefree summers in Michigan. We very much enjoyed your descriptions of people and situations. Although thousands of miles away from Greece, Stevensville. in many ways, reminded me of my summers in Chryssopigi, in the mountains near Serres: the “haunted house,” evening walks with torchlights, scary stories, my mother preparing keftedakia or macaronia for dinner, the scent of pine. Many dear memories brought back to me through your book. Isn’t that amazing? However, you had something more: the beach on the lake.! Lucky you! We really could not imagine the Lake Michigan was as huge as the sea! Looking forward to your next book and seeing you soon in Greece!
